
An average of two arrests per hour has been made for drink or drug driving since the launch of the Garda SÃochána St Patrick’s bank holiday road safety campaign, reports Breaking News.
Gardaà reported that the total number of arrests for drink or drug driving over the weekend has reached 188, reports Breaking News.
The enhanced roads policing operation is set to continue until 7am on Wednesday.

Since the campaign began five days ago, six people have lost their lives on Irish roads, bringing the total number of road fatalities this year to 38, reports Breaking News.
To date, 4,250 motorists have been detected speeding.
Gardaà have been carrying out both mandatory intoxicant testing and high-visibility checkpoints as part of the operation, reports Breaking News.
Among the speeds recorded on Monday were a driver travelling at 121km/h in an 80km/h zone in Cootehill, Co Cavan, another at 85km/h in a 50km/h zone on Boreenmanna Road in Cork, 98km/h in a 60km/h zone on the L3700 Cloongad in Riverstown, Sligo, and 125km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N55 at Tullygullin, Kilcogy, Cavan.
More than 450 motorists have also been caught using a mobile phone or failing to wear a seatbelt since the campaign began, reports Breaking News.
Drivers are being urged to reduce speed, exercise additional caution and remain fully focused while on the road.
