Two men involved in a violent assault in which the victim was punched, knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked have been sentenced to three years and three months in prison.
Aidan Daniels (30) and Adam Kelly (21), both with an address at Rochdale, Honeypark, Monkstown, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm at the Daybreak shop in Loughlinstown, Dublin, on June 23rd, 2025, reports Breaking News.
On Friday, Judge Martina Baxter imposed sentences of three years and three months on both men, backdated to the date they entered custody.
Garda Sinead Whelan previously told prosecutor Edward Doocey that gardaí were alerted after a member of the public made an anonymous report of the हमला outside the shop, reports Breaking News.
The injured party did not provide a statement to gardaí, but the accused were later identified through CCTV footage of the incident.
After viewing the footage, Judge Baxter said: “This is very disturbing”, noting that it showed Kelly punching and kneeing the victim as he “slides to the ground”, reports Breaking News.
She said the man was then left defenceless and dragged along the ground, including being pulled by his hoodie and leg.
Judge Baxter further observed that one of the attackers appeared to attempt to stamp on the victim’s head, reports Breaking News.
Gda Whelan told the court that the victim was punched, kneed, kicked and stamped on repeatedly, and while on the ground tried to shield his head from the தாக்க.
Kelly has 38 previous convictions, including offences such as theft, drug dealing, criminal damage and careless driving. He was serving a suspended sentence imposed in February 2025 at the time of the assault, reports Breaking News.
Daniels has 18 previous convictions, including possession of a flick knife, aggravated burglary and vehicle theft, with most offences committed in the UK prior to his move to Ireland in 2018.
He was on bail for other charges at the time of the assault, which are still before the courts, and both men were arrested on July 17th, with bail subsequently refused, reports Breaking News.
Defence counsel Shaun Smyth said Daniels had been in care from a young age, now recognises the seriousness of the offence, and is remorseful, with plans to reconnect with his family after release.
Carol Doherty, representing Kelly, said the violent incident was out of character compared to his previous non-violent offences, reports Breaking News.
She also presented a letter from Kelly’s partner, who recently gave birth to their first child, stating that becoming a father has changed his outlook on life, reports Breaking News.
