The UK government has rejected a call form a group of thousands of scientists demanding the Covid-19 lockdown measures be lifted.

7,000 scientists and medics worldwide signed the Great Barrington Declaration which calls for a strategy of allowing younger people to go about their lives as normal while offering “focused protection” to the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions the UK Independent reports.

Numerous British scientists including Professor Karol Sikora and Conservative MP Steve Baker have support the call and Mr Baker has called on his fellow members of parliament to speak out in opposition to the British government’s lockdown strategy.

However, spokesman for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has said that the UK government rejected the principles of the Great Barrington Declaration.

Numerous public voices have warned about the economic effect on nations and globally of the lockdown measures as well as the psychological effect on individuals but Western government’s are intent on pursuing these measures regardless.
