A wave of heat coming from southern Europe is on course to bring soaring temperatures to Ireland in the coming days, according to updated expert forecasts, reports The Mirror.
The latest weather maps show several areas of Ireland shaded in black, a marker indicating temperatures exceeding 25°C. The heat is expected to ramp up across the country starting Thursday.
Maps released by WXCharts.com suggest that the warmest conditions will hit the west and northwest regions of Ireland, though the midlands are also expected to feel the heat, particularly on Saturday, reports The Mirror.
Meanwhile, Irish tourists travelling to Spain and Portugal are facing official heat alerts as parts of southern Europe prepare for potentially record-breaking temperatures, with some forecasts predicting highs of up to 43°C in the coming days.
Irish weather analyst Alan O’Reilly, who operates Carlow Weather on X, appeared in high spirits earlier this week. Posting a photo of a soft-serve cone, he cheerfully noted that “’99 weather is back’,” reports The Mirror.
“Spain and Portugal heating up again with weather warnings in Spain for high temperatures with over 40c forecast there today and the coming days. 43c expected in parts by Thursday,” said Alan, reports The Mirror.

Top temperatures will range from 19°C to 24°C, slightly cooler near east-facing coasts. Southeasterly winds will stay light or moderate, though fresher along the southwest coast, reports The Mirror.
Thursday night: It will remain quite mild through the night with a few showers likely, particularly in the western half of Ireland. Otherwise, the night will be dry with clear intervals. Temperatures will not drop below 12°C to 16°C, with light to moderate southeasterly breezes.

Saturday: The forecast points to a mix of cloud cover and sunny breaks, alongside scattered showers. Brighter conditions will likely emerge later in the day. Highs will range from 20°C to 24°C, accompanied by light southerly or variable breezes.
Sunday: A partly cloudy morning will give way to improved sunshine as the day progresses. Most areas will stay dry, though isolated showers may occur. Afternoon temperatures will hit between 19°C and 24°C with light winds, reports The Mirror.
