Uproar as Asylum Seeker living in Dublin gets jailed for 10 years for after woman wakes up to him strangling her and attempting to sexually assault her

There’s been uproar on social media after a Moroccan living in Dublin with 33 previous convictions in three different countries has been locked up for ten years for aggravated sexual assault on his female victim and seven and a half years for burglary, reports the Sun.

According to the Sun, Mr Justice Paul McDermott imposed the sentences on Ibrahim Elghynaoui and ordered them to run concurrently.

His victim told the Central Criminal Court that she woke in her bed with Elghynaoui’s hand on her throat and he was kissing her, the Sun reports. She went on to describe how she thought she was going to die when Elghynaoui strangled her on the bedroom floor.

The newspaper reports that Elghynaoui’s victim continued to defend herself but was sexually assaulted again and eventually escaped from her assailant. He fled the crime scene through a ground floor window.

The Sun reports that Gardai told the court that they submitted a deportation application in January 2018 and that Elghynaoui was in custody in April 2018 when he applied for Asylum in Ireland.

According to the Sun, the Gardai released Elghynaoui but there’s another deportation order in now in place.

The Sun reports that 28-yr-old Elghynaoui initially pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault and burglary in Dublin on July 17, 2019 but was convicted by a jury of both counts following a trial last December.
