The winner’s identity is still unknown. Additionally, it’s unclear if they are coming forward to claim their prize knowing they have the lottery ticket, reports RTE.

According to Mega Millions, they purchased the ticket at a gas station in Cottonwood, which is located around 210 kilometres north of Sacramento.

The following were the winning numbers: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, and 6.

The winner can choose to receive $549.7 million before taxes as a one-time cash payoff or the full $1.22 billion in yearly installments over 30 years, reports RTE.

Mega Millions, which sells tickets in 45 states, is offering the payout, which is the fifth-largest jackpot in history.

At $2.04 billion, it was the biggest lottery jackpot in history.

California also sold the winning ticket for that Powerball jackpot, reports RTE.
