The Vatican decree was issued by Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello who said getting vaccinated was the “responsible choice”. His decree said those who refuse the vaccinate without sufficient reason would be subject to a specific provision in a 2011 law on employee rights, reports RTE.
The article in the 2011 law says employees who refuse “preventive measures” could be subjected to “varying degrees of consequences that could lead to dismissal”.
The Vatican has several thousand employees and their vaccination programme began last month.
There have only been 30 recorded cases of the Covid19 virus in Vatican City.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has public ally stated they are against mandatory vaccinations.
