We’ll solve the housing! Dublin City Council want to build 4,000 new homes

Dublin City Council is planning to deliver 4,000 new homes across 30 sites over the next four years.

The initiative represents one of the largest direct-build housing programmes ever undertaken by a local authority, reports Breaking News.

The developments will span 30 locations, with the biggest project set for Ballymun on Dublin’s northside, where 928 homes will be constructed across five sites. Meanwhile, two designated sites in Belmayne — near Clare Hall and Kinsealy — will each deliver 250 new units.

The council said it plans to progress a number of council-owned housing sites using a Design and Build model, with support from the National Development Finance Agency and funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, reports Breaking News.

It is also encouraging housing contractors to take part in the programme.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ray McAdam, said delivering housing at scale is “one of most urgent challenges facing Dublin, reports Breaking News.

“This new programme is about unlocking the full potential of Council-owned land to create homes, strengthening communities, and ensuring that people can continue to live and thrive in the neighbourhoods they know and love,” he said, reports Breaking News.
