We’re off! Hundreds of Irish holidaymakers break for the Spanish border despite “paddy last” Irish government cock-up

As the ban on non essential travel was lifted across Europe and the EU digital Cert was launched, savvy Irish tourists took full advantage of their new freedoms by booking holidays in the Coasta del Sol.

According to the Irish Mirror, hundreds of Irish were spotted in Malaga Airport on Saturday in what is dubbed “the great Covid escape”.

Although Ireland is the only county in the EU not to have Digital Covid passports, the savvy Irish had no problem getting into Spain once they had a PCR test showing they were negative and a copy of their HSE vaccination document.

According to the Irish Mirror, one passenger said: “I think I am quite within my rights to travel as an EU citizen. EU law overrules Irish law so as far as I am concerned the Irish Government has no legal right to stop me travelling within the EU”.
