What homeless problem? Government appears to not give a damn as 115 people died on the streets of Ireland last year

Aontú leader Peader Tóibín has received a report highlighting the shocking news that 115 people died on our Irish streets last year.

Deputy Tóibín said the figures made him “extremely angry”.

In November 2020, Mr Tóibín had called on the Government to investigate the rising number of homeless deaths in Dublin.

He did so in the context of the winter months and a fear that the cold weather could lead to more deaths on the city’s streets.

According to MSN, Deputy Tóibín said;

“These people could easily have been our brothers or sisters, our sons or daughters, our parents. “We need to do better by vulnerable people in this country, and we are calling on the Government to provide an immediate and urgent update on the ongoing review.”

“I don’t get angry often, but I am angry today. Had action been taken when I first raised the issue, then I have no doubt lives could have been saved.”

Meanwhile, the FFG Coalition has just pledged to build 35,000 new houses for refugees and asylum seekers, including those from Ukraine.
