Hurricane Gonzalo is expected to slam into Ireland’s west coast at around 6pm this evening.
Though the weather system is gradually weakening as it traverses the Atlantic, gusts of wind of up to 75km/h and torrential rain are expected. Coastal areas of counties Clare, Kerry, Galway, Cork, and Mayo will face the brunt of the weather onslaught, though torrential rain will quickly spread inland by around 9pm.
The rest of the week will see unsettled weather, but the upcoming long weekend is expected to remain largely dry.
