Today will remain relatively calm, with outbreaks of rain across the north and west and bright periods elsewhere. However things are about to get extremely cold.
Tomorrow, Wednesday will see a band of rain pushing in from the Atlantic, raising the possibility of sleet and snow showers across high ground.
Heavy rain will spread eastwards throughout tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday night is forecast to be cold, with subzero temperatures and widespread frost formation.
Met Eireann predicts Thursday to be a frosty, windy day, with outbreaks of sleet and rain across the east, with clearer weather spreading eastwards as the day goes on.
People are advised to be extremely careful on the roads over the cold patch and have been advised to share this information with their friends.
