Workers for the emergency 999 service vote in favor of industrial action

Conduit

Staff manning the 999/112 lines have voted in favor of industrial action, over a row about pay and working conditions.

Workers claim that their employer, Conduit, treat them like “schoolchildren”, even as far as having to ask for permission to go to the restroom during working hours, and being allocated a specific time for visits to the toilet.

Staff are also asking Conduit to introduce a ‘living wage’ of €11.50 an hour, and an end to so-called ‘punitive’ suspensions.

According to the employer, management has been ‘engaging’ with staff to address any issues and that ‘significant’ changes had been introduced.

Nevertheless, it is understood that 84pc of staff voted in favor of industrial action.
