A resolution passed by the European Parliament urges member states of the EU to remove the limitations preventing Ukraine from using Western weaponry against legal military targets in Russia, reports RTE.
Strasbourg MEPs cast their votes in support of the resolution.
425 people voted in support, 131 against, and 63 did not vote.
The resolution’s wording declares that “without lifting current restrictions, Ukraine cannot fully exercise its right to self-defence and remains exposed to attacks on its population and infrastructure”, reports RTE.
It also restates the demand that member states expedite the supply of armaments, air defence systems, and ammunition, including TAURUS missiles, to Ukraine and complete a March 2023 commitment to provide one million rounds of ammunition.
Furthermore, MEPs are urging EU nations to uphold sanctions on Russia and any non-EU nations that provide it with military assistance.
Regina Doherty and Seán Kelly of Fine Gael voted in support of the resolution, as did all four MEPs from Fianna Fáil, reports RTE.
Aodhán Ó RÃordáin of Labour also voted in favour, and Kathleen Funchion and Lynn Boylan of Sinn Féin MEPs abstained.
Luke Ming Flanagan and Michael McNamara, both independent MEPs, did not participate in the voting, reports RTE.
