According to Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI), since 2018, at least 77 nursing homes have closed as a result of growing operating expenses and strain on the Fair Deal Scheme, reports RTE.
At its annual conference today, it was revealed that 2,600 beds had been lost overall, with 10 houses closing last year and seven already this year. Rural regions have seen the most closures. Nearly 60% of individuals are very or extremely afraid that their loved ones won’t be able to get nursing home care in the area, according to new study commissioned by NHI.
One thousand participants participated in the August Coyne Research study. The NHI CEO, Tadgh Daly, stated that the Fair Deal Scheme has been in place for fifteen years, reports RTE.
Minister of State Mary Butler, who oversees the Department of Health’s elderly program, stated that every home receives a minimum of €1,000 per person every week.
She indicated that an additional 900 to 1,000 beds had been established as a result of new care providers entering the market, reports RTE.
According to Minister Butler, under the Fair Deal Scheme, people pay more the more money they have, and less the less money they have.
She stated that 22,300 people are receiving care in their homes right now, reports RTE.
