
The world’s oldest living person is marking her 116th birthday on Thursday, reports Breaking News.
Ethel Caterham, from Surrey, England, became the oldest person alive in April following the passing of Brazilian nun Sister Inah Canbarro Lucas, who was also 116.
She plans to celebrate the occasion at a care home in Lightwater, spending the day “at her own pace” with her family by her side, reports Breaking News.

Born on August 21st, 1909, in Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire, England, Ms Caterham was the second youngest among eight children, arriving five years before World War I began.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) reports that she met her husband Norman, a British army major, at a dinner party in 1931, reports Breaking News.
The couple lived in both Hong Kong and Gibraltar and had two children. Norman passed away in 1976, according to the GRG.
A spokesperson from her care home said: “Ethel and her family are so grateful for all of the kind messages and interest shown to her as she celebrates her 116th birthday this year, reports Breaking News.
“Ethel has again chosen not to give any interviews, preferring to spend the day quietly with her family so that she can enjoy it at her own pace,” reports Breaking News.
Last year, Ms Caterham received a birthday card from Britain’s King Charles in recognition of her 115th birthday.
French woman Jeanne Calment holds the record for the longest confirmed human lifespan, living to 122 years and 164 days, according to Guinness World Records, reports Breaking News.
