The “new” oldest person in the world is 117-yr-old Jamaican lady Violet Brown.
Born on March 10th 1900, Violet is 117 years and 36 days old. She was born when Jamaica was still part of the British Empire which makes her the last living former subject of Queen Victoria who died in January 1901.
Violet is the first ever verified supercentenarian from Jamaica and the oldest verified Jamaican person to ever have lived.
Violet took over the title when Emma Morano passed away last week who was just a couple of months older.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Violet said: “I live by the grace of God and I am proud of my age!”
Violet has a 96-year-old son, Harold Fairweather, who is believed to be the oldest living person to have a parent who is still alive.
