Wuhan remembers 1st anniversary of 34-yr-old Chinese doctor who tried to warn the world of coronavirus

Wuhan in China, the city where Coronavirus started from, has remembered the whistleblower doctor one year on from his death after he did his best to warn the world of the pandemic.

The story of a Chinese doctor who did his best to warn the world about the severity of coronavirus but dying from it has again gone viral around the world.

Doctor Li Wenliang contracted the virus while working long shifts trying to treat people at Wuhan Central Hospital.

He had sent out a warning to doctors around the world on 30th December 2019 but police told him to stop “making false comments”.

Doctor Li was an ophthalmologist and he posted his story on Weibo, the Chinese version of Facebook, from a hospital bed a month after sending out his first warning to the world.

He said that after a couple of cases, he thought it was similar to Sars.

Tragically, Dr Li said that on January 10th he started coughing, the next day he had a fever and two days later he was in hospital. He was diagnosed by doctors with the coronavirus on January 30th.

He died on February 7th 2020 with Wuhan marking his first anniversary with a special event at the weekend.

Dr Li’s story has gone viral around the world this week after the coronavirus has drastically spread.
