A 91-year-old woman has been charged with 260,000 counts of accessory to murder in Germany. The charge arose after allegations that the woman was a member of the Nazi SS. She is suspected to have working in the infamous deathcamp, Auschwitz.
German prosecutor Heinz Doellel said the woman is alleged to have served as a radio operator for the camp commandant from April to July 1944. She will not be named due to privacy laws.
The prosecution want to see the woman convicted as an accessory because she helped Auschwitz function. A 94-year-old former SS sergeant at Auschwitz was convicted on the same reasoning earlier this year.The woman is fit to stand trial but the court will not decide on whether or not to proceed with the case until next year.
