A man who was falsely accused of rape and sexual assault has been cleared of all charges after police finally turned over 40,000 text messages proving the accusing woman was an obsessed liar.

Psychology student Liam Allan had a consensual relationship with the unnamed woman who had pestered him for sex and discussed her violent rape fantasies with him. She made the false accusations after Mr. Allan broke off the relationship.

According to the BBC, the police had withheld the exonerating evidence for two years stating that the messages were “too personal” to be revealed. However, the messages were revealed after an appeal by the defence on the first day of the trial.

The presiding Judge and both the defending and prosecuting lawyers have roundly criticised the police and the called for a serious inquiry into their gross negligence.

Liam Allan has indicated that he will take legal action against the police and Crown Prosecution Services.

It is unclear if the lying woman will face any consequences for actions.
