Adams: “The Taoiseach is too slow and too mesmerised when it comes to Brexit clarity”

The leader of the Sinn Fein party Gerry Adams has called on the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to toughen his stance when asking the British Government for clarity on the impact of Brexit on the North.

Mr Adams scathing attack comes as Westminster are set to announce their departure date in the coming weeks ahead.

Although the Taoiseach has revealed his patience is wearing thin with those across the Irish sea, Mr Adams believes Mr Kenny should step up his efforts abd hold further talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Speaking at the party’s monthly conference, Mr Adams said: “I welcome his remarks, but, as usual, the Taoiseach is too slow and too mesmerised about what the British government is doing.”

“The Taoiseach needs to stop waiting for the British government. I know he is engaging with EU partners, but he must act in our national interest, at European level, to secure special designated status for the north within the EU.”

“That is the consensus of the majority of parties north and south.”
