It was an end of an era for the country’s oldest police/Garda stations on Monday as Kevin Street closed its doors for good.
The iconic building which has been in use since 1184, bid farewell to the current Garda officers on Monday as the ageing building was replaced with a purpose built facility across the road.
The building which housed some of the country’s most notorious criminals over the years was transformed into a police station in 1836 before it became a Garda station upon when the state was formed.
Before its 200 year police/Garda presence, the iconic building was a bishop’s Palace for a remarkable 600 years.
It is not yet known what will happen to the building which will now be let unoccupied.
