Case dismissed: Cork woman chances her ‘leg’ after being hit by a €1 coin and sueing the council

A Cork woman who was hit by a €1 coin tried her luck at turning it into many more thousand of them.

Valerie Purcell (39) of Fairhill, Cork, was sitting on a bench at her local park when the coin struck her leg during a grass-cutting spell.

Testifying at Cork Central Circuit yesterday Ms Purcell said the lawnmower was too close to the bench.

She said she had suffered pain and weakness in her leg the following day. Her barrister said he saw an imprint of the coin on her leg.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin suggested that the council perhaps swap the lawnmower for a goat to cut the grass in future, and struck out the “fanciful” case.
