A man from Co Meath has amused the majority of the nation this week after he came up with what has been described as the worst excuse of all time in order to avoid a traffic violation in Trim court recently.

The rather amusing story broke last week when the Meath Chronicle reported story of how Navan native Morgan Carr came up with a bizarre excuse to avoid a traffic fine for being on his mobile phone whilst driving. Garda Robert Conway who apprehended Mr Carr for the offence told Trim District Court, that he saw Mr Carr using his mobile phone whilst he was driving an oil tanker and moved to stop the driver. Mr Conway then told the court that he then proceeded to stop the tanker where he found Mr Carr holding a stapler to his ear, Mr Carr then strangely told the Garda Conway that he had mistaken the stationary item for a mobile phone.

The judge presiding over the case Ms Justice Gráinne Malone fined Mr Carr €250 for the offence and told the court that she found Mr Carr’s response to the offence when questioned by garda Conway extremely “dishonest”.
