The Tanaiste Simon Coveney has egg splattered right across his face this morning after it emerged that he was caught on a microphone saying that this government could well be remembered as being the government to reinstate a hard border on the island of Ireland.
According to Virgin Media news, Coveney was heard saying the following:
“Once you start talking about checks anywhere near the border, people will start delving into that, and all of a sudden we’ll be the government that reintroduced a physical border on the island of Ireland”
Coveney was speaking to Minister for Transport Shane Ross who responded with:
“Yeah, but I didn’t know what to say”
If Coveney’s predictions are true then himself and the Taoiseach will undoubtedly lead the most hated Irish government in living memory.
