Disgraceful: A distraught mother of cerebral palsy sufferer appeals to heartless thieves to return her daughter’s wheelchair stolen from their home

A distraught mother of a four year old girl who suffers with cerebral palsy has made an emotional appeal for heartless thieves to return of her daughter’s specially adapted wheelchair after they stole the family car with it inside.

The upset and distraught mother Sarah Cooper said her daughter Lydia is in desperate need for her wheelchair as it is a “lifeline” for her, who has cerebral palsy and the brain condition hydrocephalus. Little Lydia’s wheelchair was disgracefully stolen when ruthless thugs broke into the Cooper home in King George Crescent, Warrington, Cheshire, in the UK on Saturday night. The heartless thieves even took presents from under the Christmas tree whilst the family were sound asleep upstairs. Lydia’s wheelchair was taken along with the family car, a silver Ford Kuga.

An emotional Ms Cooper told her heartbreaking story to local radio station Wire FM radio, saying: “We are now housebound for Christmas. “I just want the chair. They could have the presents, they could have the car, they could have the money, just let me have the chair back please.” “It’s Lydia’s lifeline.”

Meanwhile Detective Vicky Goodwin, of Cheshire Police, told the station: “Burglary, no matter who you are, is a traumatic event in most people’s lives and cannot be underestimated. “In this case it is compounded by the fact this family will have no presents for Christmas and won’t be able to get around without the wheelchair over the Christmas holidays. The family are heartbroken. Detective Goodwin added: “To think this little girl has had her Christmas ruined is such a shame. Whoever committed this is callous and heartless and we are determined to find those responsible.”
