If you are an Eir broadband customer, you may want to read this.

The company has said that at least 2,000 modems may have been compromised in a cyberattack.

In total, Eir is contacting 130,000 customers to warn them to change the password on their router and WiFi, due to security concerns.

The provider ran tests and discovered evidence of unauthorized access in some 2,000 machines, which may have been infected the Mirai virus strain. Mirai works by turning the infected machine into a remotely controllable device, or ‘bot’, allowing hackers to launch attacks elsewhere.

According to Eir, the routers affected are all of the Zyxel brand, models D1000 and P-660HN-T1A.

Contact the company directly if you have any concerns about your home network.
