End of an era: Ireland’s John O’Shea confirms he will retire from international football this June

Republic of Ireland defender John O’Shea has confirmed that he will retire from international football this coming June.

O’Shea who has 117 caps for his country and scored a number of crucial goals during his intern career confirmed that he will hang up his Irish boots following Ireland’s upcoming friendly against the USA on June 2nd.

In a statement confirming his decision O’Shea said the following: “After 22 years of representing my country (17 at senior level) it is with great sadness & joy that I will be pulling on the Republic of Ireland jersey for the last time on the 2nd of June in the Aviva Stadium.”

“It has been an amazing journey but I feel now is the right time to step aside for the next generation to enjoy the experiences I am so humbled to have been part of.”
