Fianna Fáil propose a new refresher course system for motorists with six or more penalty points

According to various reports the Fianna Fáil is understood to have put forward a proposal that would see motorists with six or more penalty points undertake a special refresher course, which would subsequently see their points wiped from their licence.

It is understood that the new ruling would come into effect if the current opposition party are elected next spring. The party say drives with more than six penalty points would be able to do a day-long course to clear points of their licence. If they complete the course successfully, they could have as many as three points expunged on the spot.

The proposal was revealed by Fianna Fáil’s Transport spokesman, Timmy Dooley earlier this afternoon, who said: “What we’re proposing is the introduction of a scheme whereby somebody has an opportunity once every three years to do an advanced course, and in return for doing the course, three points will be removed. “That’s not going to change significantly for those who are repeat offenders or who continue to break the law.”
