It will be a historic moment for Cork and the GAA later today as Pairc Ui Caoiamh will host it’s first match after its €70m redevelopment.

The historic ground which has undergone a major transformation will see it’s first taste of action later this afternoon as the first of two scheduled games will take place with Clare taking on Tipperary in the All Ireland SHC quarter final.

However the momentous occasion will be somewhat overshadowed as it has been revealed that only 30,000 supporters will grace the stands at the 45,000 capacity venue.

The match which will be the first of two fixtures that will be played at the stadium this weekend comes just under three years after the GAA sanctioned the costly redevelopment which has had its fair share of criticism.

The second match will see Waterford take on Wexford on Sunday with a similar crowd expected.
