Gardaí in Co Wexford have confirmed that a member of the force was injured after they accidentally pepper sprayed themselves whilst trying apprehend two alleged thieves over the weekend.
According to The Irish Mirror newspaper, the Garda was injured when they tried to arrest the two men aged in their 20s following a robbery at Sam McAuley’s chemists in New Ross, on Saturday afternoon.
It is believed the Garda off accidentally pepper sprayed themselves when one of the men resisted arrest.
The Mirror say, the Garda recieved minor eye burns when they accidentally sprayed themselves whist the canister was pointed in the wrong direction.
Although thankfully the Garda suffered no permanent damage, Gardai say they are still trying apprehend the assailant who fled the scene during the incident.
