Harris confirms an independent national review of cardiology units will take place following Waterford man’s death

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has confirmed there will be an independent national review of cardiac units across the country.

It is understood the health minister ordered the review after a 39 year old man died whilst en-route in an ambulance from Waterford to Cork after he suspected heart attack.

The detailed review which will examine cardiology units across the country comes after the man was sent to Cork after the facility in Waterford Hospital was unable to admit him.

Speaking in the Dáil recently Mr Harris: “This review will seek to ensure that as many patients as possible have access on a 24-7 basis to safe and sustainable emergency interventions following a heart attack.”
