NASA’s InSight probe has successfully landed on the Martian surface, it has been confirmed.
The craft touched down on Elysium Planitia, an area close to the planet’s equator. The landing is the is the culmination of a seven-month long journey across space that began in California last May.
InSight’s mission is to dig the planetary surface to monitor seismic activity, temperature, and many other aspects of Earth’s closest neighbour.
The probe is expected to function for at least 24 months, with the first set of data expected by March 2019.
