There was good news for those who are at risk for inheriting genetic conditions as the HSE announced the opening of a new gene sequencing lab that will actively help potential patients at Dublin’s Mater Hospital.
The laboratory which is a Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory will reportedly help those affected by illnesses such as heart disease, was officially opened this week as part of a multi-million euro project that is funded by the HSE and the Shabra Charity.
It is understood the revolutionary lab which is considered an upgrade on existing labs here will help not only diagnose life threatening conditions such as cancer and heart disease, but it will assist in the treatment of people with such illnesses.
The €2 million state of the art lab will reportedly help patients who need urgent treatment by speeding up the diagnosis and treatment process involved in fighting such conditions.
It is understood the lab will also be able to conduct advanced gene testing that would normally have been conducted abroad in recent years.
