Ireland is politically adrift, as Enda Kenny resigns from his post

The country is currently drifting in political uncertainty, after Enda Kenny resigned from his post as Taoiseach. He remains in a caretaker function, until such time a new leader emerges from the murky depths of the political quagmire that is Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.

Mr. Kenny said he respected “the verdict of the people”, and made the walk of shame towards Ɓras an UachtarĆ”in to tender his resignation to President Michael D Higgins.

Meanwhile, talks of a so-called ‘grand coalition’ between Fine Gael and Fianna Fail seem to be stalled once again, as Micheal Martin has said that he has no intention of putting Fine Gael back in government.

Despite the unclear political situation, some ministers will still get to fly abroad for St Patrick’s Day, as it is now tradition. These expensive forays into far-flung reaches of the globe will be paid by the taxpayer, of course.
