Dail passes new legislation that could see drink drivers get an automatic ban




New drink-driving legislation that has been delayed for quite some time is has been overwhelmingly passed in the Dail today.

Under the new the legislation which will be finalised in the coming weeks, first time drink-drivers could potentially get an automatic driving ban.

The difference in the new legislation as opposed to what is currently in place is that first time drink-drivers won’t just get a fine or penalty points, they will get an automatic driving ban.

There was fiece opposition to the legislation from some TDs of the Rural Independent Group who claim that the changes will affect rural people’s lives in villages outside big towns and cities.

Meanwhile the new legislation will also see vehicle owners being punished for allowing learner drivers to drive unaccompanied.
