New research suggests that just five glasses of red month a month can get you pregnant.
Researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine in the US found that alcohol and fertility could have a connection.
The study found that drinking red wine and healthy ovaries will produce more eggs and in essence have a better chance of conceiving.
However, they claim that white wine, beer, spirits or more than five glasses of red a month did not have the same effect.
Doctors have consistently said pregnant women should avoid drinking alcohol at all costs but this study says certain alcohol can actually help you get pregnant in the first place.
Out of 135 women, aged between 18 and 44. They measured what the ovaries’ capacity to make healthy egg cells, which is measured by counting the antral follicles that produce them. The Antral follicle count (AFC) is regarded as the standard way of assessing a woman’s fertility.
The average number for a woman in her 30s is around 12 or 13, but this decreases over time.
However women who drank just five glasses of red wine a month were found to have the highest ovarian reserve, effectively increasing their chances of getting pregnant.
What’s your thoughts on the study? Did you drink alcohol during your pregnancy?
