A Norwegian Air flight was diverted to Shannon airport this morning after one of its engines is said to have shutdown.

The airline has to request that it could dump some aviation fuel to ensure they landed with safe landing weight limits being a key factor.

The flight was forced to descend from 38,000 feet to 14,000 feet for its new route over to Shannon.

The flight landed safely at 8.59 and was met by airport fire crews who were standing by.

There were emergency crews, including ambulances and aviation engineers waiting for the airliner to arrive to check the jets braking system for overheating following the emergency landing and to ensure all passengers and crew were safe.
