A man died in a blaze at an apartment block in the capital on New Year’s Day.
The incident happened at a residential block sited on Benburb Street. It is understood that all residents bar one managed to evacuate the building upon hearing the fire alarm.
Firefighters were quickly at the scene and managed to pull a man from one of the flats. He was rushed to hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The apartment block is close to the Luas line, so tram services were halted for a time while firefighters dealt with the emergency.
