The leader of the Fianna Fail party Micheál Martin has that those who receive their new bills for water charges in the coming days should still pay.

Although his party fought for the suspension of the charges, Mr Martin said he and his party fully believe that all householders should still pay their charges despite the fact the much hated charges will be suspended within six weeks.

Mr Martin said: “People should uphold the law”, before stating that it is a reasonable request to ask people to respect the law of the land.

Meanwhile when quizzed about whether or not the 900,000 householders who have already paid their charges should be refunded, Mr Martin stated that a decision on the issue would have to be made at a later point.
