Met Eireann forecast snow and sleet as temperatures plummet for the “coldest night of the year so far”

Met Eireann has forecast yet more snow and severe frost tonight as temperatures are set to plummet.

This comes on the back of a status yellow weather which is still in effect for many high lying areas.

The warning is also aimed at motorists so that they’re aware that roads will be very treacherous over the coming 24 hours.

The national forecaster is claiming that more heavy snowfalls are on the way to counties Monaghan, Cavan, Donegal and possibly Louth and parts of Meath.

Met Eireann has confirmed that an Atlantic depression is coming right behind Storm Fionn.

This new weather front is expected to bring a lot more snow and sleet to northern counties as temperatures plummet to below freezing this evening.
