The Minister for Health Simon Harris has announced that the Department of Health will be issuing an extra €5m in funding in order to help ease the current overcrowding crisis at the country’s hospitals.
Following a meeting with the Emergency Task Force earlier today, Minister Harris said the funding will be made available immediately.
Is is believed the allocation of extra funds will cocer the cost of home care packages, home help hours and transitional care beds.
The lastest development comes after the INMO issued another statement today, stating that there are currently 714 people waiting on beds in hospital’s across the country.
It is understood that University Hospital Limerick is the worst affected with a total of 80 patients waiting on a bed.
Meanwhile University Hospital Galway is the second worst with 45 people waiting on beds, whilst both Cork University Hospital and Tallaght Hospital have 43 and 40 people waiting on a bed respectively.
