Latest update: At least 84 people have been confirmed dead, many of them children, after a truck slammed onto crowds celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, last night.
The truck drove for almost two miles along Promenade des Anglais in the city, causing mayhem and leaving a bloody trail in its wake.
The driver, understood to be a 31-year-old man French man of Tunisian origin, was shot dead by police. When security forces searched the truck, they found a cache of guns and bombs.
The state of emergency in France has been extended due to the attack, and further events related to Bastille Day celebrations have now been cancelled.
