No fry zone: Wicklow county council to vote on landmark ruling later today that could see fast food outlets banned from the vicinity of school playgrounds

The country could be soon set to see a landmark occasion later today as Wicklow county council will vote on whether or not to ban fast food outlets from the vicinity of school playgrounds.

The ongoing “no-fry zones” argument will finally come to conclusion one way or another later today after a three year disagreement about the issue.

It is understood Wicklow county council want to create a 400m no-fry zone around a three-school campus in Greystones.

The radical plan which has received great support by the Irish Heart Foundation, the HSE and a number of doctors’ organisations, will be the first ruling of this nature to be introduced in Ireland and it is hoped other local authorities will support such a system.
