The Director General of RTE, Dee Forbes revealed last week that the broadcaster is to cut some 200 jobs, around 10% of the workforce, through retirement and voluntary redundancy – presumably with very heavy gratuity packages.
She said she wants to make it a “smaller and more agile” operation.
She believes the Irish public are getting “incredible value” for the TV licence fee. They’re currently in talks to sell a property near the broadcaster for a gross of €75 million and the deal is said to take place within the next 18 months.
RTE’s top 5 paid presenters get a collective salary of almost €1.8 million euro – do you think they’re worth it? Is Ryan Tubridy worth almost €10,000 a week do you think?
The State broadcaster has confirmed that the job restructure is going ahead and that a €75 million deal is on the table to sell off some of its land to property developers.
