Shocking new survey: Sex without consent is okay, according to one in five Irish people

On international Day to End Violence Against Women, the latest survey has revealed the true feelings of the people of Ireland.

The shocking results of the national poll have revealed that over one in five people in Ireland believe that sex without consent is acceptable in certain circumstances.

Furthermore, and extremely worrying, a number of Irish people also believed that walking home alone, wearing revealing clothing and going home with someone made intercourse without consent acceptable.

Researchers found that 11% of Irish people said that being drunk or on drugs justifies sex without consent.

Noeleen Blackwell of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said that while the results might be shocking -they are not surprising.

She said: “We know people don’t think enough about consent, and don’t understand it well enough.

“Sexual intercourse without consent is rape.”
