Police in the North have arrested a 45 year old man after he brutally attacked an elderly woman with a crowbar after she caught him trying to steal the contents of a church donation box in Armagh.
The man who has since been charged with burglary and assault is expected before Lisburn Magistrates on Monday.
It is believed the woman who is aged in her 70s, was left badly shaken and bruised after the incident which occurred at St Patrick’s Church in Portadown on Friday afternoon.
Reports say the man attacked the elderly woman after she refused to give him her purse after he had been caught stealing the contents from the donation box.
