Sky Sports have confirmed that they will hold talks with pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher following an incident over the weekend.

Carragher who has been pundit for the broadcaster since 2013, has been the subject of widespread criticism following an incident that seen him spit at a 14 year old Manchester United fan.

In footage obtained by The Daily Mirror newspaper, the former footballer was caught spitting at a fan whilst driving home from Old Trafford stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The paper states that Carragher who has since apologised for his actions, was captured on camera spitting at a Manchester United fan who was travelling home from the game.

In the footage Carragher who was travelling home following his punditry role on Sky Sports coverage of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, was seen spitting at fan and his 14 year old daughter after the Manchester United fan taunted the former player over the result.

Carragher who has since apologised for his disgraceful actions via Twitter, claimed the incident occurred after he was subjected to relentless abuse by three or four fans beforehand.

In the video which was captured by the girl’s father, the young girl is heard saying  that Carragher spat on her and that it landed on her face.

The incident which has been labelled as disgusting by many football fans, has now prompted Sky Sports to launch their own investigation.

According to The Daily Mirror, Sky have said they will discuss the issue with Carragher on Monday, before stating that Carragher’s behaviour was completely unacceptable.
