Independent think tank, Social Justice Ireland, has published their National Social Monitor for Autumn 2018 and in it they describe the governments housing policy as a failure.

Dr Sean Healy, director of Social Justice Ireland described the housing situation in Ireland as a “national emergency”.

“Mortgage arrears are again increasing, there are almost 87,000 households on social housing waiting lists, and 10,000 homeless” Dr Healy stated.

As of the second quarter of 2018, 71,833 mortgages are in arrears across country, the most since the beginning of the property crash in 2008.

Also, disturbingly government figures show that more children are now homeless that ever before.
