Storm Frank: Up to 20,000 homes without power and Kilkenny and Cork hammered with floods by “the worst storm in years”

In what can only be described as a disaster of catastrophic measures, Storm Frank has smashed through Ireland and has left a path of destruction in its wake.

Many parts of Cork have been left under several feet of water. Middleton was practically bypassed as flooding took over the town.

Graignamanagh in County Kilkenny saw unprecedented scenes as up to 5 feet of water rushed its main street and left residents barricaded in their homes for 6 hours. Patrons of a local bar had to remain in the public house all night.

Witness Emmet Kierans told The Liberal:
“It’s absolutely disgraceful, the government have left us behind. They couldn’t care less about us. It’s not fair, our flood defenses are non existent. Simon Harris and Simon Coveney have a sin to answer for.”

Between both the North and South of the island, emergency services are trying to restore up to 20,000 properties with electricity.
